The first [Keep Empty] option is representing the default display when the field in the column appears empty in case the record is missing. Notice that when you filter the data there is special filter parameter '$' defined for handling the empty fields. For more information regarding the special parameter of the data filter refer to the 4 paragraph of [User Defined Filter] topic
The second [Replace Empty records with "N/A"] option represents 'N/A" parameters that replace the empty fields in the related rows of selected column from the [Columns List]
The third [Replace Empty records with "Nil"] option represents 'Nil" parameters that replace the empty fields in the related rows of selected column from the [Columns List]
The last option is giving you the possibility to assign the custom parameter. It can me any string of the characters that satisfies your requirements.

below is the sample showing the result of replacing the empty parameter. In the MS Word letter the name was assigned in the canvas of the letter. In situation when the name is missing the empty field parameter is inserted instead.
